I’m Valery, the guiding force behind Velvet Light Photography. Finding the right photographer is a bit like discovering the perfect melody – it just has to resonate. I’ve been on that quest too, seeking someone to capture my own family’s milestones.
Outside my role as a photographer, I’m a mother to two amazing children and two Sheepadoodles who are almost as photogenic as my clients! My love for photography is deeply intertwined with nature’s splendor. In my work, I strive to blend the elegance of landscapes with the authenticity of personal moments – it’s a dance of light and life.
My approach to photography is to seize the moments we often take for granted today, those simple, everyday instances, that, in the face of life’s impermanence, become the cherished memories for us and the generations that follow. One of my greatest joys is traveling, and I have been fortunate to explore various corners of the world. From the enchanting landscapes of Iceland to the ancient treasures of Israel, each trip has influenced and inspired my photography.

National parks are my playground, and I love nothing more than hiking through their stunning landscapes. Hiking Angel Falls in Zion (alone!!) has been the highlight of my adventures. I've conquered awe-inspiring trails in Acadia, Yosemite, and more, but Bryce National Park stole my heart! Living just a stone's throw away from Shenandoah National park, I'm grateful to have nature's wonderland practically in my backyard. With my wild soul, I'm always up for the next adventure!

When it came to naming my son, I couldn't find a boy's name I loved equally or more than my Boxer's name: Axl. So I made the bold move to rename the dog to Pup and gave the name of Axl to my son. It took a while to get used to, but human Axl has grown into his name quite nicely.

I have two Sheepadoodles named Rocco and Greta who have opposite perspectives on their identities. Rocco considers himself a human and scoffs at the idea of chasing a ball. Greta on the other hand, fully embraces being a dog and displays a remarkable enthusiasm for fetching. It's an entertaining contrast to witness the sibling dynamics between these two furry companions.

I indulge in the fizzy goodness of Diet Coke on the daily. I have become quite particular about how I enjoy it. For my ultimate Diet Coke experience, it has to be ice-cold to the point where little ice crystals start forming, sipped straight from the can which is tucked into a koozie so my fingers don't get cold. It's my little daily pleasure that brings me a burst of joy. Here's to the perfect sip! *clinks cans*
