How do I book a session and what is the process?
To ensure the best availability for your portrait session, we recommend booking at least 4-6 weeks in advance. This lead time allows for a thorough consultation to understand your preferences, select the perfect location, and prepare for any specific requests you may have. For peak seasons, such as spring and fall, or around major holidays, it’s advisable to book even earlier due to higher demand. 

How far in advance should I book my portrait session?
Deciding what to wear for your portrait session is an important part of the process, and we are here to help you every step of the way. Our goal is to ensure you feel comfortable and confident in your chosen attire, which is why I offer personalized guidance on wardrobe selection. While you'll receive more detailed information in your Welcome Packet after booking, know that together, we'll help you select outfits that reflect your style and complement the theme of the session. Rest assured, making sure you look and feel your best is our top priority!
What should I wear for my portrait session?
Selecting the perfect location for your portrait session is an exciting part of the process! During our Consultation Appointment, we’ll discuss various location options together. The choice ultimately hinges on your vision for the shoot – whether you’re envisioning a serene natural landscape, an urban setting with character, or something uniquely personal.  
How do I choose a location for my portrait session?
Most portrait sessions with Velvet Light Photography last about an hour. However, since each session is tailored specifically to the client’s vision, the duration can vary based on the specific needs of a session. For instance, an Extended Family Session, Equestrian Sessions, or customized sessions involving multiple locations may require more time. During our Consultation Appointment, we’ll discuss the details of your session and determine the ideal timeframe to ensure we capture your moments perfectly, without feeling rushed. My goal is to provide a relaxed and enjoyable experience, while delivering stunning portraits that you’ll treasure.
How long does a portrait session typically take?
Weather, especially for outdoor shoots, can be unpredictable, but sometimes it adds a unique touch to your photos. Storm clouds, for instance, can create dramatic and gorgeous skies, adding depth and emotion to the images. In case of unfavorable weather, we have two options: we can embrace the unexpected and use the weather to our advantage, or if it's necessary, reschedule the shoot to another day. We always monitor the weather forecasts closely and will communicate with you in advance if changes are needed. Our priority is your comfort, safety, and ensuring the quality of your photographs. Together, we'll navigate any weather challenges and turn them into opportunities for stunning photography.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of our outdoor shoot?
Absolutely! At Velvet Light Photography, we know that pets are a cherished part of your family and story. You are more than welcome to include your furry, feathered, or scaled friends in your portrait session. During our Consultation, we can discuss the best ways to incorporate your pet into the session, ensuring we capture those special moments together comfortably and safely.  
Can I include my pet in my portrait session?
On average, our clients invest between $1,750 to $5,500. This range includes a combination of customizable portrait displays and services, tailored to each client's unique requirements.
Our session fees at Velvet Light Photography start at $350.
Our pricing is structured into three distinct menus:

  1. Collections Menu: Our Collections begin at $1,500, and are designed to elegantly showcase your fine art portrait gallery. Each collection includes print credits that can be applied towards the A La Carte menu.

  2. A La Carte Menu: Starting at $850, our A La Carte menu allows you to tailor how you choose to display your portraits. This menu offers the flexibility to select options that match your vision and style for showcasing your portraits.

  3. Upgrades Menu: Exclusive upgrades, available only with the purchase of a Collection or A La Carte item.

What are your photography packages and pricing?

Please note that all products from your order will be delivered only after the payment has been made in full. This policy helps us maintain a fair and efficient service for all our clients.

How do you accept payment?
You will receive the corresponding digital files for any Collection or A La Carte purchase. Please note that digital files are not available for standalone purchase. At Velvet Light Photography our purpose is to craft timeless portraits, beautifully preserved, serving as fine art for your immediate enjoyment and as precious legacies to be passed down through generations.
Can I purchase digital files for my personal use?
After your portrait session with Velvet Light Photography, you can anticipate viewing your images within 2-4 weeks. This period allows us to meticulously cull and select the best photographs from your session, ensuring that you are presented with a cohesive gallery. Our focus during this phase is on presenting a gallery of images that showcase the moments we captured. The images you select will then be fully edited and prepared for final delivery.
When will I be able to see my images?
The In-Person Reveal and Order Session is scheduled approximately 2-4 weeks after your portrait session. This appointment is an exciting opportunity for you to see your portraits for the first time. We'll unveil the captured moments and assist you in selecting your favorites for final order.
What is the process for viewing and selecting images after the session?
The images you receive from Velvet Light Photography will include a print release. Your images can be used for a wide range of personal purposes. This includes sharing them with friends and family, reproducing them for personal use, displaying them in your home, and posting them on your personal social media profiles. The joy and beauty captured in these images are meant to be celebrated and shared.

However, it’s important to note that the photographs are not intended for commercial use. This means they shouldn't be used for business promotions, advertising, or any form of commercial profit without prior agreement and potential licensing arrangements. If you're interested in commercial use, such as for branding or marketing, please let us know so we can discuss the appropriate usage rights and licensing. Our goal is to provide you with photographs that not only capture special moments but also respect and adhere to ethical and legal standards of image use.

How can I use my images? Are there any restrictions?
Velvet Light Photography is based in Spotsylvania, Virginia, and primarily serves clients within a 30-mile radius, including Spotsylvania, Fredericksburg, Locust Grove, Culpeper, Louisa, Stafford, and Bowling Green. For locations beyond this radius, a travel fee is applied. This fee covers the additional distance and the specific requirements of the shoot, including transportation costs and a per diem allowance.

We encourage you to reach out to us with your location details, and we can provide a specific quote, including any travel and per diem fees. Our goal is to make your photography experience as accessible and stress-free as possible.
